Caring for the Next Generation

As a family of five, Andy and Allisa Hovis know the highs, lows and everything in between that come with raising children. They have always been passionate about families and education, but when their first child was born in 2007, it brought a whole new perspective. As their youngest approached the start of kindergarten, they felt a stirring to put their passion for families into action in the Katy-area.

“We knew we loved families and started reflecting on how we could serve families in our area,” says Allisa. “We wanted to turn our passion into something. That’s when we came across Children’s Lighthouse and realized it was perfect.”

Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center, a childcare franchise, was founded in 1997 and focuses on quality early education and character values. Andy and Allisa felt opening a Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center of their own was the best way they could serve Katy community families.

“Their curriculum, of course, focuses on education, but also so much more,” says Allisa. “Developing character and values in children is woven into everything, and that is really our heart. We really want to dig into these kids and give them the tools they need to grow into adults who positively contribute to our world.”

Through Children’s Lighthouse curriculum, the Hovises want to ensure the next generation is equipped to guide their future into a positive direction. With all of the influences children are faced with today, establishing strong character and values is the key to ensuring their success, and a strong community.

“Families are the bedrock of society,” says Allisa. “When we pour into the children of our community, we are helping build strong families. We want to come alongside parents and be a positive influence in their children’s lives.”

Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center of Nottingham opens November 4, 2019. It will be located down the street from Kingsland Baptist Church and Nottingham Elementary at 20225 Kingsland Blvd. Katy, Texas 77450. Children six weeks of age to 12-years-old will be able to grow and learn at Children’s Lighthouse of Nottingham. Open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and with a before and after school program, they are excited to be able to serve families through caring for their children.

“We believe our school will help working parents by allowing them to take a deep breath and know their children are being loved and served well while they are with us,” says Allisa. “Our school can be an extension of their home as we partner with parents.”

Each month at Children’s Lighthouse of Nottingham, the curriculum will focus on a character attribute. Every week will then have a theme to strengthen the children’s understanding of the attribute. Children will also learn the importance of service in the community through service projects with community partners.

“There is a lot of learning through play,” says Allisa. “It is so vital for young children. Our proprietary C.A.R.E.S.® curriculum supports child-led learning and encompasses centers, outdoor time, group activities, music, and so much more.  Our foundation of character building and the way we care for our children are what set us apart from the rest.”

Children’s Lighthouse of Nottingham also offers special classes and electives, including a science class, with live animals and experiments, fitness classes, a Spanish class, sports and dance. They also plan to create community experiences for the children by bringing in local community leaders.

“We want to bring people in from the community so our children can have some one-on-one time with those leaders,” says Allisa. “We believe in providing them as many opportunities as possible to help expand their world view, and start fostering their own life vision and dreams.”

On October 5 from 9 a.m. – noon, they will be hosting a casual meet-and-greet at Minuti Coffee Shop for families to learn more, and meet the director and Allisa. The week of October 28 – November 1 their new facility will be open for tours. Interested families can call 281-770-4893 or visit their website childrenslighthouse.com/nottingham for more information to enroll.

“We really want to build up the families around us,” says Allisa. “We look forward to meeting our neighbors and partnering with them to raise the next generation to continue to build a strong community.”

Save the date for their Winter Wonderland Grand Opening Celebration on December 7 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will feature pictures with Santa, visits with Anna and Elsa from Disney’s Frozen, inflatable fun, and a variety of other holiday activities.
