In March, 2,000 men will descend on Jordan Ranch in Schulenberg, Texas for the state’s largest father/son campout. One of the event’s headline speakers is legendary Army general, William Boykin.
General Boykin concluded a decorated military career in 2007, having participated in many historic operations such as the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis and the 1993 mission in Somalia that later became known as “Black Hawk Down.” He was one of the original members, and commander, of the U.S. Army’s Delta Force. General Boykin also commanded the Green Berets, as well as ran the Special Warfare Center and School. During the final years of his career, he served as the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence.
While he is known for battle stories that depict true courage, leadership, and grit…it’s his faith and testimony that continues to inspire countless men every day. General Boykin’s biography says that “Boykin’s experiences read like riveting fiction, but his real story is that faith brought him through unimaginable circumstances. He tells how his faith was challenged, broken and then restored in his 2011 book, ‘Never Surrender: A Soldier’s Journey to the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom.’”
At Intense Men, General Boykin will address attendees on Friday night. He will speak on being a successful man, and have time to answer questions and fellowship with campers. This is the only event in the country where fathers and sons can have the opportunity to visit with someone like General Boykin in an environment like Intense Men.
Started in 2010, Intense Men is a three-day campout where our focus is to restore biblical masculinity in the lives of fathers and sons from all nations. Men come from across the globe and throughout the United States to pitch their tent and learn life skills. Through sports competitions, campfires, and powerful speakers, we draw out purpose by re-establishing identity and affirmation.
This year, the event takes place from March 16 – 18 and registration is open now. This year is Intense Men International where men from all over the world will come celebrate and educate attendees about different cultures. You will leave with global relationships! Speakers will share practical wisdom and real-life experience on topics like marriage, fathering, being fearless in the face of adversity, money, finding your place, and leaving a legacy greater than you. While some fathers and sons come on their own, others come as part of large church groups. All are welcome and there’s plenty of room on the 85 acres provided by Jordan Ranch. Nestled in the rolling hills of south-central Texas, Jordan Ranch includes a large, stocked fishing pond, woods for paintball, zip lines, and much more!
General Boykin has been a longtime supporter of Intense Men and its mission to be a catalyst for restoring manhood. His life and career embodies biblical manhood and we can all learn from his example.
Though Intense Men is known as a father-son event, many men come just to be in an environment that celebrates the role of men and biblical masculinity.
