Fort Bend Christian Academy Seniors Named National Merit Commended Scholars

Sugar Land, TX – Hung Dang and Grace Payton, Fort Bend Christian Academy seniors, have been named National Merit Commended Students in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students are being recognized across the nation for their exceptional academic promise.

Commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQTⓇ).

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2022 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2022 competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQTⓇ).

Hung Dang

Hung Dang is an active member in the FBCA National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, Medical Club, and Interact Club. He also swims for the FBCA Varsity Swim team. In his free time, he volunteers his time to medical clinics and businesses. He helps stack medicinal supplies and works alongside office IT to fix medical software. Upon graduation from FBCA, Hung plans to major in Biochemistry and/or Astrophysics, as well as minor in Computer Science. He is currently looking to attend either Vanderbilt University, The University of Texas Austin, or Texas A&M University. Hung wants to become a Vaccinologist or dive into Theoretical Physics Research.

Grace Payton

Grace Payton is involved in several FBCA organizations including the Spanish National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Medical Club, and Interact Club. She also plays for the Varsity Softball team. Aside from her FBCA extracurriculars, Grace participates in the United Methodist Army every year. This is an organization that sends high school students to impoverished areas of Texas to do home repairs for the elderly and low-income families. After graduation, Grace hopes to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in Neuroscience.

“We are extremely proud of Grace and Hung representing FBCA in this way. Not only are they gifted academically, but they both have strong character and embody the FBCA mission. This honor only serves as an affirmation of the work ethic and ability we see Grace and Hung demonstrate regularly on our campus in and out of the classroom,” shared Graham Traylor, FBCA Director of College Counseling.




“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC.
