Fort Bend Christian Academy Announces Class of 2021 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Sam Wadlington was named the Fort Bend Christian Academy Class of 2021 Valedictorian.  

Sam Wadlington has attended Fort Bend Christian Academy (FBCA) for nine years and has been a member of a wide variety of school organizations, including National Art Honor Society, Rho Kappa Honor Society, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, FBCA Boys Bible Study, FBCA Varsity Baseball and FBCA Basketball. He has served as president of the National Honor Society, president of Rho Kappa Honor Society and vice president of Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society.

Wadlington has earned recognition for his outstanding performance in his various activities. He is an AP Scholar with Honor and has won FBCA Outstanding Church History Student. During his time participating in Fine Arts, he received the 2018-2019 3-D Art Team State Champion Award and the 2018-2019 3rd place Individual 3-D Art Industrial Design Award. Athletically, he has been the recipient of TAPPS Baseball Academic All-State Award, FBCA Baseball Scholar-Athlete Award and FBCA Basketball Scholar-Athlete Award.

As part of Eagle Week, a service opportunity each spring in the upper school at FBCA, Wadlington has served his local community as well as communities overseas. Locally, Wadlington aided in the recovery efforts of Hurricane Harvey and assisted in clean-ups of local businesses. During his junior year at FBCA, Wadlington traveled to Timisoura, Romania, and partnered with the local House of Joy on a nine-day mission trip and ran a Vacation Bible School for deeply impoverished kids in the surrounding villages.

After obtaining a degree in Integrated Business and Engineering from Purdue University, he plans on pursuing a job with an industry titan in the Aerospace Engineering field, specifically NASA or SpaceX.

Jakob “Jedi” Jones was named the Fort Bend Christian Academy Class of 2021 Salutatorian.

Jakob “Jedi” Jones has attended Fort Bend Christian Academy (FBCA) for 13 years and has been a member of a wide variety of school organizations, including Varsity Cross Country, Basketball, Varsity Track, Varsity Football, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), Thespian Society, Eagle Ambassador, Computer Club, H Theatre I-IV, Science National Honor Society.

Jones has earned recognition for his outstanding performance in his various activities. He is a Commended National Merit Scholar, College Board National Hispanic Scholar, 1st Place in Nationwide ASL Honor Society Storytelling Competition (2018 Eric “MalzMalzkuhn ASL Literature Competition), Scholar-Athlete award, Outstanding Theology Student Award, Outstanding Honors Chemistry Student Award, and Junior Escort for Class of 2020 Graduation.

As part of Eagle Week, a service opportunity each spring in the upper school at FBCA, Jones has served in Puerto Rico with Joshua Expeditions to paint an orphanage, the Dominican Republic with Doulos Discovery to build an amphitheatre and paint, and Jamaica with Praying Pelican Missions to teach Sunday School to preschoolers and repair missionary house.

Within his community, Jones has also volunteered as a Kindergarten Sunday School teacher and an Usher at Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Sugar Land, Texas. During the quarantine period of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jones started a food drive called “Two Teen Guys Doin’ a Food Drive,” where he collected canned and boxed goods and delivered them to Second Mile Missions.

After obtaining a degree in Engineering from Texas A&M University, he plans on pursuing a career in civil engineering with hopes of one day starting his own civil engineering firm.

Jedi Jones is the son of Jason Jones and Karen Marques.

Fort Bend Christian Academy Names New Head of Lower School

Fort Bend Christian Academy is excited to announce Tamara Polvogt as the new Head of Lower School.

Tamara began her career teaching junior high English classes. She then transitioned to teaching elementary school. During her years in the classroom, she assisted with curriculum development and policy revisions. 

She received both her MS in Education and her Masters in Educational Administration from the University of Houston. 

Her love for private Christian education landed her at Second Baptist School in Houston, Texas, for a decade. She implemented several innovative instructional methodologies in the Lower School and collaborated with the executive team in developing a multitude of all-school initiatives. 

Most recently, Tamara served in Colorado as the Director of Middle School at Cherry Hills Christian School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

A visionary, Tamara skillfully unites team members in best practices to meet students’ needs socially, emotionally, academically, and spiritually. Her vast experience with various ages of children gives Tamara insight regarding students’ developmental benchmarks and discernment to team with parents in training children socially, emotionally and spiritually. More than anything, Tamara loves the Lord deeply and people passionately. The integration of a Biblical worldview in day-to-day instruction and proactively teaching children about Jesus are top priorities.

Joseph Menslage

As the President and Publisher of Katy and Fort Bend Christian Magazines, Joe Menslage is committed to covering social and political news from a Christian worldview. He founded Katy Christian Magazine in 2005, which swept the greater Houston and Katy areas like a storm. That’s when Joe realized the urgent need for publications willing to give voices to the voiceless, without political correctness or censorship. Joe Menslage founded sister-publication Fort Bend Christian Magazine in 2014. Prior to creating Katy Christian Magazine, Joe Menslage led a colorful life. He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, spent a great deal of his childhood in Colorado, and lived in a couple of other states before he moved to Houston in 1981. Joe was God-gifted with an entrepreneurial mind, and self-started other business ventures before he found his calling. In Joe’s words, our innate talents are given by the Lord, and are meant to be used to serve the Lord. Aside from being a President and Publisher, Joe Menslage is also the co-founder of Katy Christian Chamber of Commerce, where Christians can network, build business connections, listen to passionate speakers, and enjoy monthly breakfasts and lunches. Joe Menslage also hosts a weekly political satire YouTube channel. Joe Menslage has four children. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, watching zombie movies and K dramas, ax-throwing and Krav Maga.
