The Buzz About Fort Bend

The rain held off for the Central Fort Bend Chamber’s Business Links Golf Tournament. The day was beautiful and the competition was fierce. The Grand Champions of the 2018 Business Links Tournament, which was determined by a shoot-out, was the Value Bank of Texas-Richmond team. Team members included Keith Hart, Preston Remlinger, KJ Paciotti and Lyle Johnson.

Mrs. Melisa Carroll has been appointed Fort Bend Christian Academy’s Head of Middle School beginning the 2018-2019 school year. Mrs. Carroll comes to FBCA with years of successful administrative experience in Texas public-school systems. She has served as principal in both elementary and junior high schools, most recently as principal of an elementary school in the Bay City Independent School District.

The Third Annual Golf “Fore” Autism, presented by Timewise, is set for October 15 at the Sweetwater Country Club. This event is an opportunity for area businesses, community leaders, and organizers to show their support for the autism community. This year, we have created an event that is not only meaningful, but also fun for everyone involved. There are two opportunities to win a car, try some local food, and win a year’s worth of gas! Katy residents Alexis and Jay Patel suffered tragedy during Hurricane Harvey, but the couple’s fortune turned around when thrown a nationally televised storybook wedding, hosted by Disney World in front of the iconic Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom Park. The couple recently received some more exciting news from a Katy-area home furnishings retailer. Ashley HomeStore presented the newlyweds with a $5,000 shopping spree to furnish their home!

AmyBeth Griffin released her debut EP Heaven-Bound Gypsy on August 4 with a live concert at the Hard Rock Café in Houston. ABG, as she’s referred to by friends and fans, writes songs that blur the line between rock, blues and Christian music. The annual State of the City Address, hosted by the Central Fort Bend Chamber, was held on June 21, 2018, at Briscoe Manor. The Luncheon was presented by Richmond business owner Kevin Patton with Kevin Patton Insurance Agency, State Farm. During the luncheon, Mayor Evalyn Moore highlighted her vision for the future, while celebrating the growth and resilience of the City.




During the annual State of the City Address, Mayor Evalyn Moore paid tribute to the visionary leaders that helped cultivate the growth and success of the City citing examples such as Veranda, the opening of the Water Treatment facility and H-E-B.

Calvary Episcopal Players (K-12 Drama Club) had an unprecedented year of spectacular performances and competition rankings. One-Act Play won District PSIA competition, garnering two Honorable Mention for Kase Boettcher and Lilli Matta and one All Star cast for Paul Lazarou. CEP went on to State PSIA competition in Fort Worth, TX.

Eleven Faith West Academy pre-AP and AP teachers, along with their assistant principal, attended the AP Annual Conference held in Houston this July. The AP Annual Conference is the largest professional development gathering of the College Board Advanced Placement Program (AP) and the Pre-AP communities.

Faith West Academy students Josh Romero, Lucas Campbell, and Andrew Carrico were selected by the American Legion Post #164 to join 900 students to participate at the 2018 Texas Boys State in Austin (June 10-15, 2018).

As the President and Publisher of Katy and Fort Bend Christian Magazines, Joe Menslage is committed to covering social and political news from a Christian worldview. He founded Katy Christian Magazine in 2005, which swept the greater Houston and Katy areas like a storm. That’s when Joe realized the urgent need for publications willing to give voices to the voiceless, without political correctness or censorship. Joe Menslage founded sister-publication Fort Bend Christian Magazine in 2014. Prior to creating Katy Christian Magazine, Joe Menslage led a colorful life. He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, spent a great deal of his childhood in Colorado, and lived in a couple of other states before he moved to Houston in 1981. Joe was God-gifted with an entrepreneurial mind, and self-started other business ventures before he found his calling. In Joe’s words, our innate talents are given by the Lord, and are meant to be used to serve the Lord. Aside from being a President and Publisher, Joe Menslage is also the co-founder of Katy Christian Chamber of Commerce, where Christians can network, build business connections, listen to passionate speakers, and enjoy monthly breakfasts and lunches. Joe Menslage also hosts a weekly political satire YouTube channel. Joe Menslage has four children. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, watching zombie movies and K dramas, ax-throwing and Krav Maga.
